Joie Wiener

Joie is a North Side resident with personal experience in coping with childhood and medical trauma, and nurturing chronically ill/disabled, neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ identities in an able-focused, neurotypical, and cis-heteronormative world. Joie is a former sex educator with a background working as a therapist in the schools, and over telehealth with children, adolescents, and adults, with a particular focus on trauma and gender/sexuality identity development. Joie has worked with kids for over 10 years and realized their draw to counseling while working as a theatre and comedy teacher. They believe in the power of resilience, empowerment, human connection, and the use humor and warmth to help clients explore, heal, and carve a safe space for themselves in the world.

Joie graduated from Roosevelt University in 2021 with a dual master’s in both school and mental health counseling. They use an integrative approach to person-centered counseling including, but not limited to Feminist Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Psychodynamic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Existential Therapy, CBT, and DBT.
